The Sword of God
by Joshua Coffman
We talk of swords, we talk of shields,
But realize now that he who wields,
The sword of God, must surely die;
The man that lives will groan and sigh.
In worlds of wonder, a sigh denote,
For yet the knight of old will quote,
A verse of words, writ down to try:
The man that lives will groan and sigh.
I AM, He lives, above the world,
His banner must be borne unfurled,
To stand alone, bearing standard high:
The man that lives will groan and sigh.
Unroll the riddle they cry all night,
The slowly coming, unwavering light,
For truth alone a man will vie:
The man that lives will groan and sigh.
The sword of God is, frankly, His Word,
Which by now of course you’ve heard:
That dying to self will make you die;
The man that lives will groan and sigh.
Life, indeed, is in your view,
Affected, a lot, by color and hue,
Done without Christ, it will weep and cry:
The man that lives will groan and sigh.
