a poem by Joshua Brown
It was a dream
And I felt myself drift
To the western winds
Blown softly
And a hand
Touched my shoulder
And I turned about
To see her
With my strength
I pressed against the wind
And leapt back to her
Why did I drift
Hard it beat
The war drums razed
The wind blew away
The sounds
But it cast
Her hand back from
It's helpful embrace
A duality
Someone
Grasped my throat
From behind violent
Silently
And they wept
Crying as they choked
My own dream away
Into nightmare
